Interesting fact about me
My husband and I met in the Army in Viet Nam, and were also in the Peace Corps with our daughter in the 70s.
About Me
My husband Paul and I usually travel together, and have been all over the world--avid walkers, bikers. We live in Brooklyn, in a big apartment in a neighborhood where there are Victorian houses and trees, and even resident parrots--not what most people expect of Brooklyn. I'm a sort-of vegetarian--no milk products, but I do eat fish--but I cook pretty much everything because my husband is a carnivore. I love baking bread. I'm also experienced at cooking gluten-free food, including bread and other baked goods.
Why I Share Meals
A chance to meet new people, introduce them to our piece of Brooklyn--which I think is a stereotyped and/or misunderstood piece of NYC--and our lives. Conversely, I'd love to have a chance to meet people in new places and see their world through their perspectives.
Places I’ve Traveled
Nearly got bounced from a Russian train; biked Viet Nam in 1999; hiked Cinque Terre back from the train; watched the sun rise on the Ganges from a boat; went to one son's wedding in a back yard in The Netherlands and the other's in Paris' 18th arrondissement city hall. Currently putting up blog essays under the heading "Cuba, from the Big Chinese Bus" on (I post under "Off the Matrix").
What I Read, Watch, and Listen To
Stage: Book of Mormon, Avenue Q; movies: many, it's hard to choose; Bands: I enjoy the Decemberists, folk-style music, Irish fiddle, blues, jazz, Afro-Cuban, old rock, some metal.
A Memory of a Home-Cooked Meal
When we lived in Venezuela in the Peace Corps loooong ago, an Indian couple connected with the local university made us a fabulous meal--this was before you could find Indian restaurants anywhere. The spices and flavors and combinations were all new to me, and I loved getting to know the couple better and listening to them talk about their family in India.
Who I’d Like to Have a Meal With
How about Stephen Colbert and his family!

Susan and her husband are excellent hosts! I had a blast spending the evening with them while visiting NYC. Susan made an incredibly delicious salad and my new personal favorite "popovers". We had great conversations throughout the night. They are so well traveled and Susan was nice enough to give me a book she had written. Hope to mealshare with them soon :)

Susan and Paul are some of the most welcoming People I met when i visited the USA: They welcomed we With open arms into their loving home and were interested in me and who I am from i came at 6 PM and unitl i left right after midnight. Susan, who is a vegetarian, cooked us a extremely good pork roast. It was very tastefull and tender. She served it With risotto and vegetables on the side. Ice cream and berries to dessert. For me, even though I loved the pork roast, she could have thrown a frozen pizza on the table. What I liked most about the experience was to get to know Susan, Paul, their daughter and their grandchilden. They have both lived so interesting lives and it was great to be able to see only bits and pieces of it through the night. If you are so Lucky to be able and welcome to eat With Paul and Sue you have something very great to look forward to.
